Most people think the higher the octane rating the hotter the fuel burns. It's actually the opposite, the higher the octane rating the slower the fuel burns. Thus enabling the tuner to lean the fuel mixture down because they are now dealing with a more controlled burn rate. Thus making more power. Also, each motor requires a different ratio depending on modifications. So you don't always have run straight race fuel.
